I'm on the committee for Walk for Robbie. Robbie is 16 year old boy who had extremely severe touretts. His tics were lasting up to an hour at a time and were causing broken bones and torn muscles. He sometimes had to be put into a coma, they were so bad. Fortunately, there is a surgery to help fix it. Deep brain stimulation. Unfortunately, it cost $200,000 and is not covered by insurance for touretts. He received the surgery and is doing amazingly well! He was able to get his drivers license and go to his favorite artists concert. This walk was started by a friend of my and is helping to raise money so his family can pay back for the surgery.
So I got to the group last night and they had forgotten I was presenting. Cool, whatever. So they call me up last minute and I talk and tell people to come see me if they're interested. And a whole bunch of people wanted to serve. not. I wish. No one. My heart broke. I understand that there might have been other things going on but NO ONE showed even an interest. I went home feeling defeated.
and that was my night. Have you ever had something you were passionate about helping that no one seemed to care about? How did you deal with it?
Happy Thursday!

Ugh, that is the worst. This has happened to me a few times, and I could never understand why. They only thing I ever learned to do, was advertise. T-shirts, pamphlets, facebook events, you name it.
=[ Aw, that is so sad. I have felt that way before and it sucks. Hopefully next time there will be some people that will express their interest.
I'll do the walk if you let me know when! And I've posted it to facebook so I hope you get some donations or people to walk!
oh man that is so disappointing! i definitely know how you feel. my job is to call my school's alumni for donations and i STRONGLY believe in these donations. kids wouldn't be able to go to school with out them. So when people get mad at me or think giving to the school is dumb i feel the same as you did here! You just have to learn to not take it personally and that its hard to get across to other people what is in your heart.
Aw! I am so sorry to hear that, Kristen. That always hurts (and really does feel defeating) when people are not as enthused or passionate about a cause as you are.
I think it is amazing that you went up there and spoke out for a great cause. You should feel great about your involvement in this walk! :)
